Updating Federal Form W-4 online via the Employee Dashboard
You can update your Federal W-4 Form online 24/7. Paper forms do NOT need to be turned in to Payroll.
Instructions to change Federal Form W-4 online:
- Start with MyUNM at https://my.unm.edu/home
- Click on the “Staff” link
- Click on the Banner 9 Links tile
- Click on Employee Dashboard
- Expand the Taxes menu
- Click on “W-4 Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate”
Review your existing W-4 information such as Filing Status, Dependent Amount, Other Income, Deductions, and Additional Withholding.
If an update is necessary: Select Update at the bottom of the page. Complete the required Fields. Select Certify Changes. Click Ok to verify the accuracy of your changes. Select the W-4 Tax Exemptions and Allowances link to return to your Form W-4 Employee’s Withholding Certificate. Review to verify accuracy and note the Start Date, as this is the date that the changes will become effective.

New Mexico State Tax Updates: Any changes to Exempt status, Filing Status or Deductions amount (4b) on your Federal Form W-4 are also applied to your State of New Mexico withholding. Should you require an additional amount of withholding, a different Deductions amount (4b), or wish to claim Exempt for the State of New Mexico Income Tax only, print the form at University of New Mexico Payroll Department State Withholding form and deliver it to the Payroll Office directly, as Payroll personnel must update it.
New Employees: Your W-4 is defaulted to Single. You may update your W-4 after your start date.
